angela/cindy/arisa and all the eating

Posted on Dec. 2, 2009 by geoffropuff

angela, cindy, and arisa all came to japan last week so i got to hang out with them, among others, this past weekend.  joyce recently graduated from courdon bleu culinary school so she got us reservations at her former teacher’s new restaurant in ichigaya: chez oliver.  like most french food, it was delicious.  and tiny.  i definitely could have hit mickeyd’s afterwards but i knew we would be eating yakiniku for dinner so i held off.

on a non-food-but-related-to-our-lunch note, congrats joyce.  couldn’t be happier for you.  =)

before yakiniku we did some shopping, but i’m not here to tell you about the thermals and sweats i bought at uniqlo.  i’m here to tell you about the “horumon” we ate at yakiniku.  horumon is japanese for intestines.  in the past, i assumed that they were saying hormone and that in some way intestines had to do with hormones.  actually, horu-something means to throw away, and mon is short for mono.  thus hormone = something to throw away.  it’s a good thing they figured out we could eat it cuz it was delicious.

after yakiniku, we went karaoke and drinking.  i forgot how good all of them are at singing.  angela, arisa, and cindy all have taken voice lessons in the last year.  (in fact, i think cindy is still taking them and it really makes a difference.  her voice was a LOT better than before, and she was good before.)  my voice sucks just as much as it ever has but whatever.  on a different note, ryan KTFO and was drooling.  it was awesome.

cindy, i was deeply impressed at your singing voice. YOU GO GIRL!

sorry ryan, too funny not to post. you can see the drip on his lower lip. lol.

sunday, yumix and i hung out with cindy and angela only.  arisa had to visit her uncle.  not much to say besides the crazy dessert restaurant (takano fruit parlor) we ate at.  i paid $15 for a parfait.  at least it tasted good.

maybe mine wasn't a parfait but it was a strawberry cake-y thing.

arisa, cindy, and angela all brought me omiyage from the states.  they had all asked me what i wanted so i was honest: sourdough bread bowl and clam chowder, hot cheetos, and food from china.  i got all three, PLUS a new pc video game!  (cindy works for EA so she got me the new bioware game, dragon age: origins)  thanks for the presents, everyone.  i feel like i don’t miss the states as much when i always have friends sending or bringing me gifts.

all in all, it was a fun weekend.  angela and cindy are safely back in sanfran, but arisa is still around.  i think we’re gonna have some good tempura for dinner on saturday.  unfortunately, no late-night fun for me.  my japanese language profiency test is coming up this sunday.  BOO!  oh well, maybe i’ll post about that later.  yay for friends visiting japan!
